Early Detection

Lung Cancer Screening

Early screening can detect cancer at an earlier stage when it's more treatable - and can potentially save lives. Low-dose CT scans in Glencoe offer patients a simple process that's quick, comfortable, and close to home - offering you peace of mind, faster.

Referrals

This service requires a referral. If your provider orders a CT scan, you’ll be provided with information about how to prepare for the appointment.

To qualify, patients must be:

  • Between 50 and 80 years old
  • Have a smoking history of 20 packs a year or more on average
  • Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.

What to Expect

When you arrive, you’ll check in at the front desk of our hospital before heading to our Medical Imaging department. A technologist will review your medical history with you prior to your scan.

You will lie on your back with your arms above your head as the CT scanner moves slowly around you to capture detailed images of your lungs. The scan itself takes less than five minutes to complete, and the entire appointment typically lasts about 15 minutes.

Once the scan is complete, your images will be reviewed by a board-certified radiologist and sent to your primary care provider, who will review your results with you. Depending on the findings, you may be scheduled for a follow-up scan in several months or continue with annual screening as recommended.

Safety

Low-dose CT scans are a safe, effective tool for detecting lung cancer early. The radiation exposure is minimal, and no injections or contrast are needed.
