Specialized care for

Degenerative Disc Disease

This condition is a weakening of one or more vertebral discs, which normally act as a cushion between the vertebrae. This condition can develop as a natural part of the aging process, but it may also result from injury to the back.

Disc degeneration, also known as degenerative disc disease, is a common condition that affects the spinal discs. These are the soft, cushion-like structures between the bones (vertebrae) of the spine. These discs act as shock absorbers and allow the spine to move and bend smoothly. Over time, normal wear and tear, aging, or injury can cause the discs to lose hydration, flexibility, and height. As a result, they may become less effective at cushioning the spine, which can lead to stiffness, discomfort, or pain.

As discs degenerate, small tears may develop in their outer layer, and the space between vertebrae can narrow. This can place added stress on nearby joints, muscles, and nerves, sometimes causing pain that radiates to the neck, back, arms, or legs. While disc degeneration is a natural part of aging and often does not cause symptoms, some individuals experience chronic pain or limited mobility.
