Insurance Coverage
To understand your insurance coverage for foot care, contact your insurance provider.
Medicare generally doesn’t cover routine foot care, however, there are some medically-necessary exceptions, including:
- Systemic conditions: Medicare may cover routine foot care if it’s part of treating a systemic disease that reduces circulation or sensation in the feet – like diabetes, vascular disease, or neurologic disease.
- Mycotic nails: Mycotic nails, also known as onychomycosis, are fungal infections that affect the nail.
- Onychogryphosis: Thickening of the nail (typically a curved hooked nail) that causes pain, makes it difficult to walk, and results in an infection.
- Onychauxis: Thickening of the base of the nail that is painful, limits the ability to walk, and creates an infection.
