Occupational therapy develops a child’s or adult’s ability to complete activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, eating, doing housework or schoolwork, or performing job-related tasks. It can help them improve hand-eye coordination, develop strength in their wrists and hands, improve fine motor skills, reach developmental milestones and learn to use adaptive equipment or techniques.

Therapy Settings

We provide occupational therapy on an outpatient basis in the Rehabilitation Services department on the third floor of the hospital on our Glencoe campus. Our occupational therapists also provide services to patients who are recovering in the Transitional Care Unit on the second floor of the hospital.

Protocols

Patients who undergo orthopedic surgery at GRH are prescribed a course of physical and/or occupational therapy to support their recovery. They can receive therapy at GRH or choose another facility for convenience. To assist therapists at other facilities, we publish the rehabilitation protocols for all orthopedic procedures performed at Glencoe Regional Health.
