Athletic Training
An athletic trainer provides injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation aimed at keeping student-athletes safe, healthy, and performing at their best. They work closely with athletes, providing pre-practice/game preparation, evaluating and treating injuries, referring to area physicians, and communicating with coaches, athletes, parents, and administration.
Our licensed and certified athletic trainer provides the following services:
- Injury and illness prevention
- Emergency management
- Injury evaluation
- Concussion management including ImPACT testing
- Therapeutic rehabilitation
- Referrals to Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Orthopedic Care

Glencoe Regional Health is proud to be the Official Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Provider for Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) High School. Our athletic trainer is available after school to evaluate and treat injured athletes.

The athletic trainer will communicate with the coaches regarding student injuries. She will also contact the primary parent/guardian for injuries that meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Result in a change in the playability status of the athlete
- Require imaging or further evaluation by a medical provider
- Have not improved with two weeks of regular treatments
Parents/guardians are welcome to contact the athletic trainer with questions about their athlete’s visits at any time.
Hours:
The athletic trainer is available daily after school in the Athletic Training Room, typically until 6 p.m. on days when there are no evening sporting events. Hours may vary depending on school and sport schedules.
Event Coverage:
The athletic trainer will be at most of the following home varsity and JV sporting events – football (9th/JV/V), volleyball, cross country, soccer, wrestling, gymnastics, boys and girls basketball, dance team, track, baseball, and softball.
In the event of multiple event nights, athletic trainer coverage priority will be based on the sport classification with the highest injury potential or greater number of participants per event.

The Athletic Training Room at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School is located next to the Black Gym.

Return to Play:
Per the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), if an athlete is seen by a medical provider for an injury or illness that keeps them out of practices/games, the athlete MUST have a signed note from the medical provider before they are allowed to resume participation (bylaw 107.00). The completed form can be given directly to the athletic trainer.

Our commitment to student-athlete well-being doesn’t stop on the sidelines. When injuries or health concerns require additional attention, our athletic trainer works closely with Glencoe Regional Health’s expert providers to ensure a seamless transition to continued care. This includes direct access to specialized services such as orthopedics, podiatry, occupational therapy, post-concussion treatment, and sports-focused physical therapy for injury treatment and recovery. For more immediate needs, our Urgent Care clinic offers extended evening hours, making care convenient for busy families. We also provide connections to trusted primary care and family medicine providers for ongoing health management. Together, we deliver a comprehensive care experience tailored to help student-athletes heal fully, return to play safely, and stay healthy long-term.

Which Therapists Evaluate and Treat Sports Injuries?
All of the physical therapists at Glencoe Regional Health provide care for sports-related injuries to the neck, shoulder, back, hips, knees and ankle. Our occupational therapists provide care for sports-related injuries to the hand, wrist and elbow. Our speech-language therapists provide care for patients with post-concussion syndrome.
