We’re proud to announce an expansion project designed to allow us to care for the growing needs of our community. The project features a new 7,645-square-foot north addition and a 2,445-square-foot south expansion aimed at meeting the growing demand for advanced clinical services in Glencoe.
As a non-profit, independent organization, we’re committed to providing high-quality, accessible care so that residents of the Glencoe area do not have to travel long distances for essential services. This project addresses critical infrastructure needs while expanding specialty care to meet the evolving needs of the region.
A Critical Moment for Rural Healthcare
This investment comes at a time when Minnesota’s non-profit hospitals and health systems are facing a significant financial crisis. According to the Minnesota Hospital Association, 31 hospitals across the state currently meet financial distress criteria formally. As many large health systems reduce their rural footprints, forcing patients in Greater Minnesota to drive 40 to 70 miles for basic services, we’re taking proactive steps to remain here long-term serving our community.
“While profit margins in nonprofit healthcare are razor-thin, they are essential for reinvesting in infrastructure and technology,” said Ben Davis, President and CEO. “We believe that living in a small town shouldn’t mean settling for lesser care. This project ensures we are here by focusing on the services our community needs and values most.”
Project Highlights Include:
- Operating Rooms: Significant updates to aging infrastructure in existing operating rooms to ensure long-term viability and uninterrupted patient care.
- Wound Care Enhancement: An expanded home for the award-winning Wound Center to increase capacity and meet the high demand.
- New Specialty Procedure Rooms: The addition of two new procedure rooms dedicated to minimally invasive care, such as Pain Management and other specialty services.
- Medical Imaging: Optimized space for essential diagnostic services, including ultrasound, mammography, and bone density scanning.
Community Impact
The impact of these services is best described by the patients. LeRoy, a surgery patient, shared, “It wasn’t just about the surgery, it was the way they cared about me as a person.” Wound Center patient Roxanna noted, “Seeing the words ‘You are healed’ on that piece of paper made me want to cry. They did such a good job and treated me with so much care.”
The expansion of these needed service areas will make a high impact on patients who won’t have the added stress of traveling far to get the care they need.
“By strengthening our surgical core and expanding specialty care like Wound and Pain Management, we’re ensuring that we remain a vibrant, local healthcare resource and employer for years to come,” said Ben.
To support the local economy, we intend to partner with local contractors throughout the construction process. The project is meticulously phased to ensure that all current hospital services remain fully operational, with no disruption to patient care.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2026 and will span approximately two years. We’re actively raising funds to help support these necessary infrastructure investments.
