Navigating insurance and healthcare costs can be confusing and sometimes overwhelming. We want to help our patients stay focused on care and recovery, not worrying about bills or insurance. That’s why we’ve recently expanded our Patient Financial Services team.
Our Financial Navigators and Financial Advocates focus on helping patients by providing excellent customer service.
“We encourage patients to reach out early,” said Patient Financial Services Team Lead Carrie Overby. “This allows us to get a head start on helping patients, and removes some of their stress early-on.”
Our Financial Navigators collaborate with providers and social workers to help patients with financial assistance applications, grants, or manufacturer support such as medication programs. Our Financial Advocates serve as the primary contact for billing questions and self-pay balances, explain statements and insurance coverage, and help patients with many processes such as setting up payment plans and providing estimates. Together, they create a seamless experience, so patients feel supported from the start of
care through final billing.
“We want patients to know that help is available, and questions are always welcome,” said Carrie. “Medical bills can feel overwhelming, and our goal is to make billing as clear and manageable as possible.”
For one patient and their family, that support has made a lasting difference. Mark of Glencoe and his wife shared their experience in a handwritten note of gratitude, reflecting on the help they received.
“We are very grateful for the financial assistance that you have granted our family,” Mark wrote. “It has been a true gift and a godsend in navigating the waters of our healthcare journey as seniors.”
Mark shared that he never imagined his family would have a need to apply for assistance – which made the support they received when they needed it even more impactful.
“We are lucky to have such complete and advanced care in our community,” Mark added.
That sense of trust and connection with local care played an important role in his family’s overall experience, helping them feel supported not only through their care, but also through the financial process that comes with it.
“Helping patients and families navigate financial challenges means a lot to me,” said Patient Financial Advocate Megan Orr. “Being able to ease some of that stress and guide them toward financial solutions, while also giving them the support they need right here in our community, is what makes this work so meaningful.”
Our Financial Services team works behind the scenes and alongside patients to answer questions, explore options, and provide guidance every step of the way.
As a not-for-profit organization, our focus is always on patient care. That means helping patients understand their options, manage their balances, and access resources when needed.
Whether it’s understanding a bill, checking coverage, or exploring financial assistance, patients never have to navigate the process alone.
